It seems kind of weird to say “Happy April Fool’s Day.” After all, it’s all about pranks and jests where someone makes a fool of someone else. But perhaps, celebrating this day is more about recognizing courage—the courage to take risks, to step into the unknown, and yes, even the willingness to fail. When you dare to try, you might look foolish to a few, but take a moment to consider who truly matters in your journey. The supporters, those who see you boldly chasing your dreams and not fearing failure—they are cheering you on.
A few days ago, I had the privilege of meeting with an inspirational group of women through the SD CEO Women’s Business Center (West and East). The connection was profound, providing a space to discuss our dreams, challenges, and strategies for success.
The Beauty of Community
Networking with women who are success-oriented and supportive can feel like a breath of fresh air. It’s easy to think of others as competition, especially when you’re deeply invested in your business. But remember: “All ships rise with the tide.” In this group, the atmosphere was not about competing against each other but lifting one another up.
Women from various backgrounds—mentors, collaborators, thought leaders, and entrepreneurs—were all focused on the common goal of empowerment. The energy was contagious and reminded me that we are not alone in our journeys.

Goals Are a Journey, Not a Destination
One enlightening insight from our gatherings is that goals are not simply destinations to be reached. They are part of a journey—a continuous evolution of personal and professional growth. When you achieve one goal, it’s often followed by another. The urgency of the next goal can overshadow the triumph of the previous one.
This is where it’s crucial to pause and celebrate your accomplishments, however small they may seem. Acknowledgment fuels motivation; it reminds us that each step is a stepping stone that prepares us for what's next. Additionally, by focusing on the journey, we allow ourselves to enjoy every moment, learning and growing in the process.

A Simple Challenge for Yourself
In light of our deep discussions, I want to challenge you with two simple yet impactful tasks this week. The first: tell a different person every day that they are a gift—no explanations needed. Just that simple affirmation can brighten someone’s day and cultivate an environment of appreciation. If circumstances allow, follow it up with a hug (do ask for permission, especially in a workplace setting).
Secondly, it’s time to take action on your biggest goal. What next step can you take to move it forward? Don’t fall into the trap of self-critique and second-guessing. We all have that inner critic that loves to provide unsolicited advice designed to keep us safe but often holds us back. Remember to silence that voice—it’s time to embrace the bold actions needed to create your best self.
Create Impact Through Momentum
If you’re feeling uncertain about the next step, seek guidance. Connect with one of the inspiring women from the SD CEO Women’s Business Center or another mentor in your network. By collaborating and asking questions, you can gain clarity and momentum. Building relationships is integral to achieving our goals, and you might be surprised by the valuable insights others can provide.
In today’s world, it’s essential to take risks. Venture outside of your comfort zone. When you face your fears head-on, you build resilience and develop valuable skills that will serve you in your journey towards your dreams.
The Importance of Celebration
As you progress, don’t forget to celebrate your victories, no matter how small they may seem. If you achieved your goal, acknowledge it; if you took a courageous step towards it, give yourself a pat on the back. Celebrating doesn’t have to be grand; sometimes, it’s the small victories that keep us motivated on this often-challenging path.
The journey may seem daunting, but remember that it’s filled with learning experiences. You are not just forging a path for yourself; you are setting an example meant to inspire others to pursue their dreams as well. Authentic Arts isn't just a retail store or a gallery. We aspire to create an environment for artists and makers to express themselves and have a platform for being seen.
Final Thoughts
As we embrace the playful spirit of April Fool’s Day, let us also take it as a gentle reminder to not be afraid of failure. It’s okay to look a little foolish as you chase your dreams—what matters is that you’re taking risks and learning from the process. Support those around you, lift them up, and create a community of encouragement.
So, don’t just sit back and wish for your dreams; take the actions needed to achieve them. Connect, support, and empower one another. Together, you can create a powerful force that helps everyone rise. Remember, you have the tools to create impact—now, it’s time to put them into action.
Let this be the year you embrace the idea of taking joyful risks. Start right now.
